Skin and Hair
It seems there is never a time of the year when you have manageable, shiny hair and soft, smooth skin -- unless you’re lucky enough to be blessed with these naturally. But instead of spending countless dollars a year on expensive conditioners and moisturizers, consider changing the water you’re using.
Hard water, which contains magnesium and calcium, is a leading cause of dry skin and hair. That’s because the hardness minerals in water react with soaps and shampoos, leaving behind a residue which can irritate your skin and dry your hair. You may think you don’t have hard water in your home based on where you live. This is a common misconception, particularly among city dwellers. But according to the U.S. Geological Survey, 85 percent of U.S. homes are plagued with hard water. |
